Ethos EM
For Reviewers

Careful review across methods and forms

Ethos EM asks reviewers to assess whether a submission is rigorous on its own terms, ethically sound, and meaningfully engaged with acute, unscheduled care.

The category determines the review

Original Research

Reviewer-anonymous peer review considers the research question, design, analysis, reporting, ethics, and the strength of the conclusions. Reviewer identities are not disclosed to authors. Reviewers should use the appropriate reporting standard where one applies.

Creative and critical work

Non-fiction, fiction, poetry, and visual work receive editorial and craft review. When editors seek an outside craft, subject, or ethics review, the reviewer receives protected materials and a form suited to the work rather than a research-methods rubric. Reviewer identity remains confidential from authors.

Secure access

Responding to an invitation

An invitation email contains a private link to the Ethos EM reviewer workspace and requests a response within 72 hours. Opening the page does not answer the invitation. After signing in with the invited account, use the explicit Accept or Decline control. The review is due 14 days after invitation; accepted reviewers receive informational reminders on days 7, 10, and 13 and a day-14 notice if the review is late. A passed deadline does not automatically close the assignment.

An accepted assignment provides the authorized review materials, a private saved draft, separate author-facing and confidential editor comments, and a final submission receipt. Manuscripts, supporting materials, and review drafts stay inside the authenticated website and are never sent as email attachments. Reviewer identity remains hidden from authors. Author identity may be visible to the reviewer, including when an editor serves as a reviewer.

If an author identity or another detail creates a conflict, stop the review and contact the Ethos EM editorial office. Do not forward files or invitation links by ordinary email.
